WHAT IS dietitian

Dietitians are required to complete a four year university degree to apply the learnt science of food and nutrition to promote health, prevent and manage disease to optimise the health of individuals whilst taking into consideration their personal goals. Whether you're looking to improve your diet, manage a chronic condition, or simply make healthier choices, a Dietitian can create personalised meal plans and provide practical advice tailored to your specific needs. As part of the allied health team, Dietitians play a key role in supporting overall well-being through evidence-based nutritional strategies. We are here to empower a healthier you.

A question we often hear is “When should I see a Dietitian?” Our team is dedicated to supporting you throughout your health journey. Here at Empower we recognise that every individual is unique, and so is your treatment plan. Below are some of the conditions we frequently treat, where a referral to a Dietitian can make a significant difference in your care.

What to expect during your first appointment

During your first appointment with our Dietitian our primary focus is on you. You should expect the following during your first appointment:

  • Building trust and rapport to understand your health and nutrition goals. This allows us to tailor advise to meet your unique needs.

  • We will gather information on your medical history, current health conditions, and any medications medications. This information is essential to personalise your nutritional recommendations.

  • We will review your current eating habits, lifestyle and food preferences. We will also conduct a thorough dietary assessment that will include a dietary recall to better understand your nutritional intake. This helps us identify areas where improvements can be made and understand how your diet may be impacting your overall health.

  • After assessing your nutritional needs and personal goals, we will provide tailored nutrition education that may include meal planning, food recommendations and strategies to address any health conditions. You’ll leave with actionable steps to help you achieve your health goals.

If you have had recent blood results, a medication list or anything else that may assist us with providing you the highest level of care, please bring this along to your initial appointment.
